You can use a TSOP flash to flash the bios, but you don't need to with a softmodded xbox, it will perform great without it.

And do, you can't just use hdprep. All that does is create the partitions. You still need to put the files onto the new drive and lock the drive. Check for the xboxhdm tutorials, its a great way to get the files in the right place and lock the drive easily.

I've noticed on my original XBOX HDD, it has a sticker on it that says "UNLOCKED". What does that mean?

I've sent in my XBOX for service numerous times. (Mainly for HDD difficulties.)

EDIT: GOOD NEWS! I've locked the HDD successfully, according to the program.

But, now what do I do? I didn't put the savefile on for AUF, nor did I put the MS dash on it. So how can I get that on there?

I know I can't just throw the HDD back into the computer, because it uses its own file system, and it's locked.

EDIT: It's like a ghost town here... >_>

Bump.

Is there any way to get the xploit to run off the memory card?

I think it looks like I'm going to have to flash my TSOP so I can FTP a dash to the HDD.

EDIT: I'm getting like zero help here, and this really sucks.

I locked out my HDD, and nobody is helping me with it, and then to top it all off! MY x64 MACHINE IS CRAPPING OUT ON ME! WTF IS GOING ON!

EDIT2: Seems like I'm talking to myself here, if anyone is reading this at all...

I'm atempting to install XP Home over XP 64-bit, to see if I can remove the lock on the HDD.

EDIT3: Great. Now the disk I had for XP requires the old 64-bit disk, which I lost. And in the process, I delete the C:\WINDOWS folder.

So, now I have a broken PC and a useless locked XBOX 120GB HDD that I wasted 44 dollars on! WTF

Oh yeah, and nobody has helped me since the 5 hours I've been sitting here. You'd think SOMEONE would be on, BUT NOOOO.

EDIT4: Note to self: get paperclips.

EDIT5: Still feel like I'm talking to myself here. Nobody's replied, or even looked at the thread, for that matter. I've managed to get the HDD-Unlocker to run on the x64 box, that's now running XP Home. But I can't get the PC to boot with the HDD pluged in... Maybe if I update to SP2. Wow, I really need to stop talking to myself.

EDIT6: Still googling a way to get at least SOMETHING on this POS locked HDD, but I think I'm going insane here. I think I heard someone talking in the other room, but there's nobody here. WTF. I'm definitely going insane.

EDIT7: Hour 7. Still nothing. Getting frustrated.

EDIT8: Ran out of soda, and I cut myself by accident on the damn HDD. I'm so pissed off right now. It hurts so bad. Probably not as bad as my sanity.

EDIT9: SP2 finally finished installing, or so I think. I can't remember back this far, when XP was this primitive. I can't scroll in IE too fast, or the PC will beep at me. Jesus, I'm going whacko here.

Not before I went and locked the drive.

I read half of the replacing the HDD tut.

I THOUGHT that the hdpreptool.exe would put a dashboard on the drive, but it didn't.

So now I have a empty partitioned locked drive.

EDIT: Wow. XP 32-bit runs like 40Xs faster than the 64-bit OS did. I click the shutdown button, and POOF! IT GOES AWAY! It's like super h4x0r speedhacks! ZOMGZ

Anyway. The HDDUNLOCK program says that the drive needs to be set to master. Well, uh, how am I going to boot up the PC if there's nothing on the HDD? nubnuts.

There was this tool that one of the dudes told me to get, IT"S A LIFE SAVER! OMFG

I GOT THE HDD UNLOCKED USING THE AWESOME POWER OF LINUX! W00t W00T! Very Happy

You see, this is why I bought a 500 MB HDD for Gentoo. Wink

OK, so, now what do I do? How can I get the dashboard onto the HDD now that it's unlocked?

As I stated in my previous post, a great way to get the files you need onto the HDD is to use xboxhdm. There are tutorials on this site to help you with that.

Another way you could try but probably won't work is a program called fatxplorer. I never got the release to work, but I was able to use the source code to rebuild the program in MSVS (with some tuning) and I was able to put the files onto a clean drive that way.

A third option is if you have a friend with an xbox that is chipped, you can drop your HDD into it, load AID 3.03 and put the files on that way.

You need to use a DOS boot disk for this. I've done it, it works great.

Once you have the files onto the new drive, THEN lock it and drop it in. Make sure your locking it with the eeprom.bin from the xbox.

yeah, I just used xboxhdm. That Linux Boot-CD thing. I FTP'd my C and E to my desktop, and then placed them in the folders labeled C and E.

Then I pressed 1 when the menu came up, and went threw all that stuff.

Then, to be doubly sure it was on there, I used xplorer, and found that there WAS A DASH ON C! HURRAY!

NOW GUESS WHAT! I CAN"T LOCK IT! This is just hitting every possible bad corner.

It said something about "can not change the security properties of a hard disk, while frozen. Please try to disable auto something in your BIOS."

What does that mean?

Without knowing the exact details on the error, its hard to say. I would go into your bios and turn off any kind of auto-detect to ensure the computer does nothing with the drive until xboxhdm does.

I'll try that, and if it doesn't work, I'll snap a pic with my camera.

As expected, it did not work.

This is really starting to PISS ME OFF!

EDIT: BTW that big little black smudge in the middle of the 2nd pic, that's part of my LCD. I went to fold down the monitor one day, and a screwdriver was under it, and I didn't know. Fell right on it, and it was like that ever since.

It doesn't bother me much, only when the screen goes white, or something. It usually fades in with whatever.

It looks to me that the drive is still being auto-detected, based on the fact that it is listed in your IDE device list. Are you able to set it to not do so?

Frozen, however, may mean that the drive is locked. Are you still able to read the drive with MC? If you drop the drive into the xbox, do you get an error for the drive being unlocked, or for locked with the wrong password?

I can disable it from IDE-BIOS thing, but then won't Linux not be able to detect it?

If I drop it into the box, I get a "Your XBOX needs service" thing.

EDIT: Why aren't you on AIM?
