I'm real partial to the Xenium Ice. Perhaps gen 5 will have something cool but right now, I don't see anything "better". Cheaper perhaps but not better.

ARRRRGGH, X3 has more 1st party options than any other, and they make their own bios to boot which a lot of people put (X2) on their chips anyway, aaarrrgggghhhh... jump on the bandwagon... and receive configuation changes ON THE FLY!!!
But seriously, its a bit difficult for beginners. I didn'thave much trouble, except the unforgving 13 and 14 pins on the LPC but thats it. Easy web flashing, everything about is good.
Except some say its too mainstream, big name on the block, but hell, who the hell buys a yugo when they can afford a Cadillac baby. Not to say I am totally biased, I am saving for an XX V.2 chip for some of its options, but I won't get a new case for that xbox and an lcd, control panel.... like i did for my Xecuter box.
Prefernce is everything. You will find opinions perspiring bias, but that is what they have, that is what they like. _________________ XBOX v1.6

I have been a huge proponent for the Xenium Ice mod chip for quite some time. I also love the SmartXX V2 and even the SmartXX LT OPX, but if you are installing the LT OPX onto a 1.6 machine then there are some tips/tricks you should know.
The X-Changer V2 mod chip is surprisingly robust for a $20.00 mod chip. You can't count that one out.
But, admittingly the X3 has more built in features than any mod chip I have ever installed. The only problem with it is that it's a bit more convoluted of an install and the warranty sucks.
Is there a particular thing you are wanting to accomplish that your ice isn't helping you with? _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Easiest solderless set up on a v1.6 would be the xenuim spice.
Hardest would have to be the smartxx spider adapter.(v1.6)
As far as a chip I am with Shortacid. Had a Smartxx v2 and removed it, and installed the x3. The XX v2 is a great chip and the xenuim. The xx LPT is a good chip for under 30 bucks. Would use any of these in another machine again.
The features in the x3 are great. The on the fly adjustments is worth the install time. Try anything you want to. My friends pick the chip that they want and I will do the install so I can check it out. S!@#, I even want to try a spider install. _________________ Xbox v1.3

Yeah, those on the fly adjustments are sweet if you are in the need, or like those features... But, have you ever wondered why make such a powerful chip and still require an external switch for bios/bank configuration??
That just baffles me... _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I like the bank, there is nothing wrong with it. I would like some setup of some ancient computer style switches, knobs, lights, etc. Gives you a feeling of where ya came from.
It is your choice to install the switch.Honelstly Modgod, I haven't used any other chips, how do they select bios banks. I wish to know. _________________ XBOX v1.6

Yes, it's your choice to use the switch but if you dont you are stuck using one bios correct? What if I wanted one bios to boot to F and one to boot to C? Or, I wanted to have a different bios with different fan speeds...
All other fourth gen chips have the bios/bank config built into the OS..
You just flash the first available bank and then move on to the next..
Then, when you turn your machine on you have your OS menu and you select what bank you want to boot from.
With the X3 you have to fiddle with a nasty looking switch...it just didn't make sense to me to have such a powerful chip with a switch is all.. Now, the control panel that has the built in proswtich is sweet looking and all..but still...it just never made sense to me why I must have to hook up a swtich if I want to configure and manage multiple banks.
Granted a majority of people roll with one bios... I am probably one of the few who gripe. I also wish TeamXecuter would warranty their product a little while longer. As an installer, I try to give my customers the best of the best and that includes coverage against failure. Since I back up my consoles, I would rather have a happy customer 9 months down the road if his chip fails...
To date, TeamXecuter has been very innovative with their new X3 CP and all... It is a great chip performance wise... It's probably more than a majority of modders actually need though. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

In another thread, i mentioned to you there is a way to soft select the bios (as opposed to the switch, you don't need it). You can even name the bios bank. And as for the features, it seems the x3 has a settings file on the e: drive that carries the settings from one bios to the next. Even on a different bank. I haven't tried editing an x2 bios or m8 bios, I only did a quick flash of the m8.
The switches can be a pain when you accideentally push them or something of the sort. But its totally soft selectable.
And yes the warranty can be longer. _________________ XBOX v1.6

Okay, I have never really went real deep into Config Live.
So, if I install an X3 with a switch and flash three bios. Two bios boot to C, but boot different dashboards, and one boots to F and boots yet another dash.
I can then just ignore the switch and boot to any drive via a menu? Or, do I have to go into settings and change settings, and then boot to the dash?
Just curious because with a Xenium Ice, SmartXx V2, or LT OPX the first screen that I get gives me my booting options. So, if I have three bios (not including retail kernel) I would have something like this.
Xenium Ice XOS 2.3.0.
Retail Kernel (if I select this, the mod chip is disabled and I go straight to MS Dash)
M8 Bios Boot to EvoX
M8 Bios Boot to Avalaunch
M8 Bios Blue Logo Boot to UnleashX
Bank 4
Configuration
Reboot Xbox
Shut Down
Recovery
The menu would be something to that effect?
The same goes for flashing. If I want to flash any of the banks, I dont' have to worry where my switch is. With the X3 can you flash different banks with the switch not being present? Since you seem to know a lot about your chip, I figured I'd pick your brain.
I really don't get much time to play with the X3's unfortunately. I think I'm going to buy a used machine and pop an X3 in it just to play around with. I'd like to know more useful info about this chip since I get so many people asking about it.
later man. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

Well, as long as you have a x3 bios, you are able to boot dashboards in a specific order. or even a quick launch. I haven't played with too many other bios' like M8_16, but hey, for you I will later tonight.
I am just ending hell week at school. 2 finals, 2 papers, 2 speeches, and 1 group assignment at school, but finally I will be taking a break. _________________ XBOX v1.6
