I have installed an Aladdin chip. When I ordered, it was supposed to be an Aladdin XT 4064, but now that I look at the back of it, the sticker says Aladdin Live version 1.0-1.6.

The trouble I am having is I don't get 100% boot up to the hacked BIOS. I'm getting to the hacked BIOS about 60% of the times that I turn the XBOX on. The other times it boots up to MS Dashboard, or gives me a blank screen. I know when it might boot up correctly when the LED on the cd eject button is yellow. But that still doesn't mean 100% bootup. Some times, when the yellow LED lights up, I can also get the black screen. Everytime that the LED is green, I get the MS Dashboard.

My Xbox is a version 1.6 (don't know how to tell if it is an A or B), and I have double checked the soldering, and have also soldered the HD, BT, L1, and D0 to the chip, using the points on the bottom of the board. I am using an Aladdin rework board for the underside as well, and all the rework points are soldered good.

The chips came flashed with M8+, so I reflashed with M8+16FC137 bios, and get same results.

Is this a problem with this type of chip? or just my install?

Thanks for your attention.

There arent' too many Aladdin installers here. I thought Custom-Xmodz has dealt with them though... not sure.

Hang in there, hopefully someone will come around. Aladdin used to pop on here to help the Aladdin users, but he hasnt been seen in months.

I'm not too fond of Aladdin products so I never bothered learning anything about them.

Sorry I couldn't help.

Are you using Auto Installer Deluxe when you get it to boot? When I boot mine I hold in the power button untill I hear the DVD spin(I also count to three) I'm going to be working on a Tutorial for the Aladdin but I only have had experience with the 1.0 & 1.1 motherboards. I did have some problems with my frst mod attempt but I think I have it fugured out.

I must have fitted over 60 aladdins and I hate them, I really wish people would go with the duox2 instead, same price, much better.

If it was me I would check all the solder points, then try booting with a different HDD, I had a problem once when it would oly load so much of the bios, put another stock HDD in and it worked fine. I was annoyed as the faulty one was 200GB and had worked perfectly.

Other than that I would reflash it. and if still not then it is a faulty chip.

What version aladdin do you have? Aladin advance, 32, 64, live. ex? atc

Hi

Maybe I can help you out here as I have installed hundreds of XT's.

The blank screen drama - There was a bad batch of Aladdins getting around for a while in particular the XT's with LCD support on V1.6 boards

1.6A or B - Check the Ram on the board if they are samsung you have a 1.6 if they are hynex you have a 1.6b(there are two of these chips)

Regardless of 1.6A or B this is not your problem. If you were using the wrong bios you will only get intermittent freezing during game play -usually!

Suggestions
I'd consider changing the install method. If you have quick soldered try using header install and vise versa. I have had chips whick would not switch on at all until I dis-used the header that came with the chip and soldered on my own header socket

If this still does not work you have a faulty chip

Hope this helps

I buy my chips 100 at a time and XT's cost me less than 1/2 the price of Duox2's

I do respect your opinion but I have to disagree. Aladdins are generally good chips for the price. There are lots of clone Aladdins getting around - these I suspect are the cause of the problems. The XT lite works fine on all models including 1.6/1.6b. The super lives are not as good for V1.6 but are fine for all earlier versions.

For people installing their own chip who don't want to get involved in bios flashing - go with the duoX

If you are paying someone to install your chip the duox has no advantages at all over the AladdinX, and if the AladdinXT is $15 - $20 cheaper go with Aladdin XT.

The DuoX is a great chip but in bulk buy quantities it is still way over priced. The dual bios is ok in some ways, but is also a waste in other ways. The standard chip can only use one of the 2 bioses and most installers re-flah all chips with their own bios anyway.

If you are up to modifying the DuoX this is where it becomes a great chip and is worth the money. On my personell xbox I have a duox - I removed the switch of the chip and installed and external sw. so I can change bios easily. At least this way the advantage of a dual bios can at least be used as an advantage.

Im Australia 100 duo's would cost me $1000Au (that's $10 per chip) more than 100 XT's this may wel change in the future as duo's do become more popular.

heya

Are you definatley holding in the power button for 2 secs to boot chipped and 1 sec for normal ms dash?

I was not referring to bulk buy prices on the chips, I was referring to what i sell them for which is pretty much the same price.

And over here there is very little price difference, I have sent loads and loads of duox2's over to australia, perhaps this is the reason, i dunno.

But in the uk, from me you can buy a duox2 for the same price as an aladdin and for the Uk I am cheaper than most other places.

And I also ship worldwide.

Regards

DJH
