HI... I have some trouble networking my xbox to my pc. I've donde everything I read on the tutorials. I've put the Ip adresses right, I have the crossover cavle connected, I'm running latest version of flashfxp, and windows xp SP2. But I still get that damn message on flashfxp "CONNECTION TIMED OUT"... or something like it. So please, I don't know what else to do...

Hi dan270586,

ok..

1. click start menu
2. select 'run'
3. type in 'cmd' (winxp,2000) or type in 'command' for win95/98 etc
4. type 'ipconfig /all' or 'winipconfig'
5. it will show you all your pc network settings.

heres what my ip config looks like:
Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : adsl
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8139
rnet NIC
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-01-80-3A-46-
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 203.12.160.35
206.12.160.36
6. write down your settings or copy and paste.
7. my home pc ip is 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0. So just use this as a example.
8. I have my xbox setup with a static ip address of '192.168.0.2' with a subnet of '255.255.255.0' and a gateway of '192.168.0.1'. And have the static switch under xbox setting switched to 'YES' static..
9. reboot your xbox

IMPORTANT:
- if you are connecting directly from your network card to your xbox you should be using a crossover.
- if you are connecting from your hub/switch router etc to your xbox use a normal rj45 network lead..

ALSO TURN OFF ALL FIREWALLS UNTIL YOU ESTABLISH A FTP CONNECTION WITH YOUR XBOX.. YOU CAN THEN CONFIGURE THAT LATER

my flashfxp settings:
example:
ip: 192.168.0.2 Port: 21
user: xbox
pass: xbox

that should get you going mate.

enjoy HQ!

cheers,

forahobby

ok.. So your pc is 192.168.0.1 good..Smile
Your xbox should now be set to 192.168.0.2 or another ip in that range..
192.168.0.3, 192.168.0.4, etc etc etc

do this:

1. click start menu
2. select 'run'
3. type in 'cmd'
4. type in 'ping 192.168.0.2 -t' then press enter.

It will now be pinging your xbox to wait for reply.. If you want to stop it just press 'Control + C' and it will stop pinging.

heres what it looks like when it sees your xbox:
Code:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>ping 192.168.0.2 -t

Pinging 192.168.0.2 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64
Reply from 192.168.0.2: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=64

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.2:
    Packets: Sent = 6, Received = 6, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
Control-C

Make sure yuo have lights on both the xbox and the pc network cards even if you arent pinging it. It shuold have a link light lit up..
If you have no link lights then it may be your cable.

anyway, wont be long.. hopefully you will be sweet.
