Hey all..this is a bad ass site! I ordered a pre-mod and should have it tomorrow..I'm seriously geeked about this machine. My mailman...I'm sorry, my parcel delivery specialist as he likes to be referred to, thinks I am stalking him. My question is, what are my limitations with this machine. I have some things that I would like to accomplish, but am unsure of what I can truly do with this console. I know I will be able to ahem....back up my already purchased games and dvd's, but some of the other programs that I see listed have me wondering. I very much would love to have the benefits of XBMC, but I know that isn't an option. I will have XBMP so am I limited to just being able to play what's on my hard drive, or will I be able to file share with my PC? I have a Media Center PC and I record a lot of TV. If it's just a matter of FTP'ing then I can deal with that until a more stable release of XBMC is available. If anyone hasn't done so go check the screen shots of that puppy out! What a job those guys are doing. I also have about 1400 MP3's and streaming from the PC to the XBOX would be awesome. I know that Microsoft is coming out with the XBOX Media Center Extender Kit sometime soon, but was just curious if that is an option right now. Here is what my premod has:
Xenium Chip
250GB Hard Drive
Evol X M7 dashboard installed
Px Hdd Loader
DVD Movie Player: Region-free and Dongle-free
Xbox Media Player 2.4...plays all video files.
Dvd2Xbox: Game & Media backup tool
50+ Skins
Xbox File Xplorer
Avalaunch
Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc
Xbox FTP Client
Xbox Watch
Xbox Commander R2G
Well, any info on what these programs do would be greatly appreciated. You can either post or just email me. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to let me know! I know my machine is definitely coming with a switch so I can do XBOX Live, but I will probably just buy a new machine for Live gameplay. I don't want to risk getting banned. I know you can get around it, but why bother. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

OK... There's nothing stopping you from using XBMC on your Xbox, I'd actually recommend it over XBMP. It's more than stable enough for streaming use if that's what you wanted it for.
The way it's set up is a little different from just straight FTP'ing, you have to use Samba Shares from your PC to Xbox, which can be easily done using a program called Relax. How it works is basically you enter the locations you want to share on your PC, then configure your XMBC xml file to map the locations. It's not too tricky. You don't need anything from M$ to stream, this is just their way of controlling the non-modded community, hehehe.
Also, there's an alternaitve to Xbox Live called Xbox Connect. It's not run by Microsoft which means it probably doesn't check to see if you've got an "original" xbox without any mods. So if you're interested have a look into that instead.

'DJB' thanks for all the info...I am so tempted to grab XBMC..oh man am I. I basically just got (like at 4:30PM EST) my machine and am already lost, but loving the learning curve! I am going to get my feet a little more wet before I load XBMC. I have some homework to do and don't want to blow the near $500 I just spent by screwing something up. I just got to learn more...it's something I have been interested in anyway. I haven't had much time to research and am not real strong in Networking or XML for that matter. The first thing that I am going to tackle is managing all the files and downloading stuff to the HDD. Then I am going to get into FTP'ing and looking into what I have to do for XBMC...again, thanks for all the information. I am going to go look for tutorials right now. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter
