I can repair most "dead" Xeniums ... as long as it isn't a clone ... _________________ Visit Mid-South Mods for expert mod installation, repairs, and upgrades

I've gotten quite a few sent in already this week. Most of the problems I'm seeing are installation-related (installed backwards on header/adaptor, placed on one row of pins, shorted out to ground, etc). Only two were found to be completely dead. The rest were able to repaired or reflashed and sent back to their owners. Most of them only needed re-flashing. Some needed a trace repair--there is a trace running between the LPC quicksolder points and the flash memory chip that I'm finding likes to burn through. This causes a "no-LED" symptom, as that trace is the main ground for the chip. If it gets shorted to Vcc it will literally burn through like a fuse. The other problem I'm seeing is a burnt MMBTA06 transistor. When this component fails, it causes the bright whitish blue LED symptom. The constant red LED w/3 reboot FRAG symptom is usually caused by an OS corruption and a reflash will fix it. However, it can only be reflashed if the recovery mode still works. If the entire flash chip (no OS, no recovery mode) has failed, I haven't found a way to repair that yet. _________________ Visit Mid-South Mods for expert mod installation, repairs, and upgrades

Just wanted to Thank You CAP269. I had a motherboard that looked like the guy used the soldering iron to drill into the d0 point and took the trace out next to the d0 also. I thought I had repaired it and put my Ice Chip on to test it. The trace for the d0 on the top of the Chip burned up like the fuse on a firecracker. I couldn't shut the power off quick enough. I'm guessing the 2 traces on the motherboard must of been touching where he jammed the soldering iron into the board but I couldn't see it and thought I scraped it out good. Anyhow, after reading this post on how you repair them I figured I try and fix the chip (I didn't think it was repairable but had keep it for some reason). Just ran a wire for the trace and it worked. It booted to a blue screen with white wording that said to push the A button and it went into the OS. I was surprised all my Bios were still there and I was even able to update to the latest 2.3.0 OS. The Ice is definitely superior in my mind. Sorry for the long post just wanted to give a little testimony also I guess.

Man..what gives!!!
Just got another Xenium Ice that won't boot correctly. I haven't tried to do a recovery yet, the last one I was able to do a recovery and get the chip to work.
This chip is slowwwwwlly falling out of my favor.
SmartXX's for everyone...woo woo!
I seriously hope TeamXodus does something about this....it's a shame to have such a good chip go south like this.

Hey Jeff, just an update. As you know I got a new shipment of Xeniums directly from TeamXodus earlier in the month. I just installed #50 out of the new batch, and so far, not a single one bad. It must have been a faulty production run toward the end of the year last year. I did notice that the chips I received this time "felt better" ... they seemed to be better quality overall than the previous shipments. Maybe Xodus got a new manufacturer? Hmmm... Anyway, the first 50 out of the box have been good. I'll keep you updated as I go through the rest of them. _________________ Visit Mid-South Mods for expert mod installation, repairs, and upgrades

That is definitely good news. My Xenium business has really been slow the last couple months. I have been installing more SmartXX's . Probably 5 to 1, which four months ago it was the opposite.
I really hope that I get the same results. I am about to put in an order for Xenium Ice mod chips on Friday.

Led is white on Xenium and Xbox boots twice and on third time frags. This is with the chip in Recovery also. Xbox boots normal without Chip. Question is do you know or think the Chip is fried?

It probably is. Look on the component side of the chip between the removable D0 pad and the black IC to see if the trace is burned like shown in the following picture:

Thanks CAP269. I thought maybe the guy just lost the OS on it but I guess he'll have to buy a new one. I checked it over and there are no broken or burned traces. One thing I did notice is that the Recovery Switch is very loose and almost ready to fall off. Don't know if that would make it FRAG? I could take it off the external LED and solder back onto the chip. Worth a try maybe or think it might be worthless.
