I've never trusted UnleashX or any other dash (Avalaunch) for messing with the HDD locking. I was warned off that fairly early on at Xbox-Scene and I have had one instance myself where after a reboot UnleashX was showing a HDD as unlocked despite it being a softmod.

ConfigMagic though, particularly Rocky 5's very welcome v1.6.1 GUI update IS the primary tool for any locking/unlocking job.

What's a MiniSpy 360 kit? More info please, URL.

MiniSpy:

http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/multipage/engine.pl?function=viewid&id=RKS00047&cat=XBOX360-MODDING

I bought that kit over 10 years ago.

Have a look around on that site. They got a ton of cool stuff on there.

It should be able to do so.

See my detailed post above about my encounter with Victoria. Complete with screen shots.

The only reason I mentioned using XboxHDM23USB Beta 2 or 3 with a USB adapter was to allow the user of a PC without an IDE interface to set up a new HDD for the Xbox. If using Victoria 4.47 on a PC with an IDE interface that's running Windows, instead of using a USB-to-IDE adapter attach the Xbox IDE HDD to an IDE interface on the motherboard.

I only have SATA headers on my Windows 7 PC. I do have a VERY old PC (circa 1999) that has an IDE header on the MB. It's got a whopping 300ghz AMD CPU too.

Start vcr447.exe by right-clicking on it and using "Run as administrator". It starts for me doing this in Windows 10. Not so, without doing so. Starts with errors informing me about a driver install problem, needing administrative rights and an integer division error when just started by double-clicking on it.

It's a .7z archive that I downloaded; did you get a .rar file?

There was no .mht but a .htm file, vichlp.htm. Opened 4 me in Google Chrome and was translated from RU to EN language.

See my detailed post above about my encounter with Victoria complete with screen shots. And I got .rar files.

IIRC, not all USB-to-IDE adapters support pass-thru of the entire ATA command set especially the security commands of the IDE standard.

I'd attach the 250GB CinemaStar IDE drive directly to an IDE interface port on the motherboard if available. Not sure what restrictions if any the current USB-to-IDE adapter has. I'd try a different adapter. It may work much better than the one you are currently using.

I went ahead and ordered an IDE to SATA cable off Ebay last night. It was only $7.50 with free shipping. I guess I'll find out if victoria will scan the drive and/or set the master password. I'm gonna set the CinemaStar to slave and run Victoria from my Win7 HDD as master to scan it.

And I could attach the drive on the one and only IDE header on the 1999 PC I mentioned above but I would have to format the CinemaStar in Fat32 and then load a copy of Windows on it in order to install Victoria so as to run Victoria in order to run the scan on the drive.

XBOXHDM works in both directions and its Linux Lock feature is by far the easiest and straight forward plus there are tools right on the XBOX like Configmagic and UnleashX for locking and unlocking.

Neither ConfigMagic nor my Xenium OS would lock the drive. Believe me, i tried. The drive is mostly considered unlockable. But that's why I'm exploring options mentioned by kaos. I hardly ever accept the conventional consensus on a group opinion like "unlockable". I will explore every option until I find out the hard way for myself that the drive is truly unlockable.

I've never had a fail or anything messed up happen with the Xenium OS locking and unlocking a drive before the CinemaStar drive. Done it numerous times. And ConfigMagic wouldn't lock the CinemaStar either. That's because the manufacturer master password was never set for the CinemaStar or both ConfigMagic and the Xenium would have locked the drive for sure. That's why I'm trying to figure out if and/or how I can set the master password myself.

Dont confuse people being idiots and unlcking their HDDs and not locking them causing an E5 with a lack of function. Its very common for people to not follow instruction or to just be plain dumb then blame it on the software. And in the case of an HDD hes having issue getting to lock period there is no risk, the worst that can happen is UnleashX, ConfigMagic or XDK launcher would just fail to lock it.

And once booted your HDD should show as unlocked thats not an error lol. One of the first things the XBOX does when booting is unlock the HDD hence the fact you can hotswap the drives

As far as the XBOX goes the master password doesnt matter. It locks and unlocks using the user password Even if you get it locked with a master password if you havent locked it using the eeprom/hdd key as the user password the XBOX wont be able to unlock it and run software.

This is the manual for the Cinema Star from Hitachi pay attention to page 83 which covers security and locking

yeah, after reading the security settings pages 83-87, seems like user locking would not work until a master password is set. But, I don't have one of these drives to test my theory.

From page 84, Section 10.7.3 Passwords
...
The system manufacturer or dealer who intends to enable the device lock function for end users must set the master password even if only single level password protection is required.

Yeah Im guessing by the name and what Ive read these were PVR/CCTV drives and the intention was lock it to the Comcast etc box or CCTV system. ConfigMagic or Linux Locking Tools would be a perfect thing to test it though since they set a Master and User password. May be able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone

I did test it thoroughly. I took it as far as I could take it. The CinemaStar does indeed seem to be unlockable.

I ran Hiren's Boot CD on the drive with it connected to a IDE header MB on my old pc. Hiren's has got Victoria and MHDD on it. I ran Victoria in a WinXP (called MiniXP by Hiren's) Preinstalled Environment (PE) and Victoria still would not set a master password.

Running Victoria from MiniXP I got no "port talk driver missing" error or any errors at all when I opened the program and I was able to choose PIO mode which opened up the Security Manager section of the software. I tried all different jumper pin settings too. I feel like I tried every option and it just would not set a master password. Kept getting "PWD error".

First image is of the CinemaStar. Note the "Security:" line. It says "Off". Second image is a Hitachi DeskStar. It's a lockable drive. I picked it from the lockable drive list here on Xbox-HQ. Got it off Ebay used. Note the lockable drive "Security:" line says "Off. Frozen"

CinemaStar

Deskstar

Also note that I got Victoria in PIO mode (upper right hand area) and note the Security Manager interface is active.

I then ran MHDD on it and it would not set a master password on the CinemaStar either.

The CinemaStar is not lockable. It seems. But the manual says that "a user password cannot be set unless the manufacturer or DEALER sets a master password. I'd like to talk to one of these "dealers" and ask them how exactly they would do that. There must be a way. The manual says there is. Victoria or MHDD can't do it though.

BTW. I got the Deskstar in my Xbox right now. It's definitely lockable. I got it locked right now and I locked it through the Xenium OS. No problemo. My other 40gig IDE drive I have that I know is lockable says "OFF, Frozen" in Victoria too.

And one more thing. When running MHDD on the CinemaStar I ran a command on it to "Disable" the security on it. Then when I ran Victoria back on it the Security line said "Security not enabled" instead of "Off". So MHDD definitely wrote to the firmware of the CinemaStar. But it still could not set a master password.

I did run ConfigMagic on the CinemaStar. Locking failed.

I have not tried Linux Locking Tools.

Boot your PC and go into BIOS and disable IDE auto detection. The frozen security is a common issue mainly with Intel based systems and even occurs when running a live linux distro like XBOXHDM for locking/unlocking. Essentially what happens is the BIOS takes control of the drive preventing security operations when you want the software (Victoria, MHDD, Linux Locking, DOS Locking etc) to take control of the HDD. Its just like those annoying errors where your PC says the file is in use by something else and cant be moved or modified.

I just updated my old Xenium chip from v1.1 to v2.3.1 and was getting everything set up and decided to password protect my menu settings with the "Enable Password" function in the OS menu. So I click on the menu item "Enable Password" and a dialogue comes up " Yes or No" and I click on yes thinking another popup menu would come up with a password entry function to set my new password but then nothing happened after I clicked on "Yes". Nothing. Nowhere to enter my password or anything. So I back out of the menu, reboot the xbox and now the Xenium OS is asking for a password before I can enter into the menu settings and I didn't even enter a password to be set. I'm password locked out of the chip.

I removed the chip from the motherboard and slid the "safe mode" switch over to the other side hoping that would let me enter the settings and no go. Locked out.

I have the manual for the Xenium OS v2.0 but it mentions nothing about the set menu password function. There seems to be no manual for the v2.3.1 OS. I'm screwed. Not only that, I had previously set the default bios to the Xbox retail bios and then enabled the "Quick Boot" option so I can't even boot into the Xecuter2 bios and boot the Evox dash. I'm stuck booting into the Xbox retail dash untill I figure this out.

There are two terminal connectors on the chip as well as the safe mode switch. Anyone got any ideas? Does anyone know if any of oZxodus people who made the chip are still around anywhere and if there is anyway to contact any of those people and ask about it?

I found a post about the password and skin feature for the Xenium OS 2.3.0 most likely the same for the XOS 2.3.1. (Note: I have not verified that the information posted there works.)

The author states that the password is fixed to X, White, A, Y and that you have to press this button combo within a few seconds before the default bios boots to get into the XeniumOS.

Update: I've included the text of the post below just in case it goes away before xbox-hq.com does:

MARCH 15, 2005
Xenium os 2.3.0 features

Skinning

You have to make a folder named XeniumOS and install that in E:/. Then make another folder named Skins and install that into the XeniumOS folder. When you download Xenium Skins and Extract them just put that Skin folder with the .CFG and .JPG files into the Skins under E:/. For example you should have E:/XeniumOS/Skins/Xreactor

credit: RNCHTRNR

Password feature

1.Get into the xenium settings and select instant boot.
2.Turn it on
3.Then turn password to on
If you have instant boot off this feature will not work.
4.restart your xbox, At this point [sic] enter X, white, A, Y You only have a few seconds to accomplist this or xos will not boot. If you have instant boot turned on it will boot your default bios.
