Can't believe I have to ask for such a simple matter, but oh so thankful that this place exists.
Having to install bios after my HDD died after a decade or so I find that I forgot how to do things.
Specifically I have a SmartXX(V2 I believe) xbox with a new drive and the old evox(2.6) cd as well as a more up to date slayer one ready to go but can not figure out how to boot from one to install the bios.
I always end up in the SmartXX menu and have no idea where to go from there.
Any tips I would be very thankful for after the last three evenings of trying to figure it out on my own were not very fruitful.

Are there any hacked BIOSes flashed to the SmartXX modchip?
You need to select and boot one of those for the console to boot an installer disc.
SmartXX supports flashing a BIOS across the network. There's also a SmartXX RemoteFlasher application available to simplify the process.
SmartXX RemoteFlasher v5 download attached to the post here.
What size and model/type of hard drive you are attempting for install?
The SmartXX OS can format a new drive too. No need for an installer disc. However, it won't do F and G only F from what I remember. And, doesn't support huge drives. Those needing 32KB or 64KB cluster sizes for the extended partition - 06 - F drive. I think SmartXX only supports formatting partition 6 using 16KB clusters for a supported partition size between 128GB to 256GB.
32KB cluster size required for an extended partition size from 256GB up to 512GB.
64KB cluster size required for an extended partition size from 512GB up to 1TB.

Thank you for the warm welcome!
While remote flasher didn't find my xbox for some reason I can get into the menu via browser and the IP. Same thing I figure.
I put in an 80GB IDE drive I still had in storage.(and others wanted me to throw it away!) Which is enough for what I currently had in mind, playing some old games.
As there are currently no bioses on the chip that explains exactly why those DVDs failed to boot up. Thank you very much for that, I was honestly despairing over that bit.
Must admit though that I don't have the files to flash bios from PC.(relied on my disks before) Could you please point me at one? I got confused trying to find what I need for that in the site's download center.

With the EvoX dash installed you should have a BIOS flasher from your Xbox's main dash.
You still need the BIOS files though so using an HeXEn or AID disc, both of which actually use the EvoX flash BIOS tool and have a good selection of BIOS, might be the best way to do it. HeXEn has a few more safety nets built in.
Read upon BIOS flashing first because as kaos_engr indicated there are some pitfalls depending on chip etc being used.
Found this basic guide for SmartXX chip flashing provided with no endorsement from me but it seems OK:-
"Here's how to flash a bios.
1) Load smart chip with quickboot (power not dvd button)
2) Go to Config (Just press up once)
3) Go to BIOS/BANK Config (Press down once after opening config)
4) It'll tell you the size parameters (2mb) and then go to flashing menu (Up OR down twice)
5) NOW you have the menu to find the bios, so either it's in your C drive or E drive or on a CD, in which you click the respective one to where it is, it'll look and display all files.
6) Find the BIOS.BIN so that where it says BIOS: None it'll change to BIOs: BIOS.BIN
7) Change the bank to any empty bank of which you have 7.
Cool Click mirror flash to fit (trust me)
9) "Program Flash NOW!" needs to be clicked, it'll do a half second load and BAM, flashed.
10) exit to the main menu again and then just click the BIOS.BIN Option in the main list."

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but I do not have EvoX dash installed right now and can not boot a HeXEn DVD.
Because of that I wanted to flash EvoX first via the easy SmartXX flash option, but I do not have the files.(can't find them anymore) for that.

I think I need to apologize asking for a .bin
Did not realize those are VIP downloads and how asking for those is just scummy.
In the meantime I did manage to flash evox via lan and that is nice, but did not actually resolve my issue.
Still getting a 09 error as before.
Have the feeling that maybe it wasn't the HDD afterall.
Any idea what I may be doing wrong still?

Was already set on cable select.
Just to be sure I tried the other combinations without success.
Does the format of the drive have any effect on things before I connected it?

Alright,
tore out some other HDDs from an old PC that was in the dusty back. Which also do work. Kind off.
Got past error 09 and now get 07 consistently.(evox 1.6 starts up, then hangs on the splash screen for 10 or so seconds before I get the error and red flashing led)
Checked over everything with two drives but things stay the same.
Would this be a cable issue then or what exactly am I looking at?

You mean against a different cable entirely, correct?
Then no, I have not done that yet as I am currently without one.(my donor PC is stored a hundred km away with family

Alright, thanks.
I will look those over again just in case and then see about aquiring a new cable from somewhere.(not like they are stocked anywhere anymore)
