Hello world, I bought an Xbox from eBay and it had your website information on a skin pre-installed. It seems that the custom home-brew on the device does not allow me to access the Microsoft Dashboard, it is being skipped when I try to hover over it, would you have any answers to help me unlock it? I really need it for GTA 3, thank you very much. Thanks for taking the time to look at my thread.

you should still be able to play gta on it, should be able to put the disc in and boot it not sure what the issue you are having but if its not allowing for ms dash you can get aid or hexen and have it put a new xbox dash on so that you can select it. Since the Microsoft Dashboard menu item is being skipped over, the file to start it does not exist on the hard drive.
Post a directory listing of the files/folders in the root of the Xbox's C drive.
FTP into the console to obtain such a list.
Next, post a copy of the evox.ini file so we can see how evoxdash is configured.

In my experience this is quite a common problem with EvoX dashboards and softmods because during the softmod the MS dash, which may well still be present and working on the C:\drive, is renamed.
The evox.ini file is probably pointing at C:\xboxdash.xbe or there is actually no entry for the MS dash at all. I've seen that with some older EvoX dash installs. It just needs to be pointed at the correct C:\MS dash XBE but that needs to be identified and checked it works first. So follow kaos_engr's instructions.
Even if the MS dash is not working you can install stock files somewhere else and point the evox.ini path at that instead.
Personally once this particular matter is sorted I'd update the softmod, get rid of the EvoX main dash and install UnleashX. With its file manager/built in text editor it makes fixing problems easier than doing it remotely via FTP.
You can also use it to install custom soundtracks without needing the MS dash but I'd admit that it is easier if you do have it available, particularly for ripping CDs in the required .wma format. I certainly would not want to use a Xbox without of working MS dash for that and several other good reasons.

I don't know the game mentioned but behaviour as described could mean the game needs ACL (Action Control List) patching.
That is done using the DVD2Xbox app.
As I understand this some games refer back to the disc for certain purposes. So if the game is installed rather than played from the physical disc the path (to the D:\ drive) is not present. Result: game crashes or ceases to display. The ACL patching fixes that.
If it is not this: what Xbox version is your console? If it is a v1.6 there are specific problems with certain games caused by its video encoder. Again I have no idea if that particular game is one of the problem ones.
As for the cable: ideally you need an original Xbox Component cable. Official ones are very expensive and rare but third party ones can still give good display results.
Just make sure you get an original or 'classic' Xbox one - sellers on Ebay etc often list XB360 Component cables as "Xbox" cables. XB360 cables are not compatible with the original Xbox.
Most Xbox games only support 480p although there are an increasing number which can be patched to support 720p.

What is the IP address of the PC's Ethernet port?
Both have to be on the same subnet to communicate even though phyiscally connected they cannot transfer data between devices.
Devices with IP addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx subnet and 192.168.0.xxx subnet (subnet mask: 255.255.255.0) are on two different subnets and cannot communicate with each other. Or any two other subnets 192.168.YYY where YYY goes from 1-254 if different cannot talk to each other.

Go into the System Configuration menu and look for the network setttings.
Is Evox using DHCP (dynamic) or a static IP (manually) set to 192.168.0.2?

If it is on Static that may well be your problem.
When connected like that with a Static IP you have to go into the network settings on your PC and change them too.
I've said this before here: with my old WinXP laptop I could never get DHCP to work so always used Static and a direct to Xbox /cross-over cable connection. BTW a cross-over cable should not now be necessary as most modern systems can detect the cable type in use.
When I migrated to Win7 it was the opposite problem. I used exactly the same network Static settings for direct connection of the Xbox to the PC which worked with WinXP. I received the same result you describe: connection detected but no FTP possible.
But the moment I switched to DCHP and connected via my router (the same one that did not work with WinXP and DCHP) an IP address to my Xbox was assigned and everything worked fine.
So I'd suggest swapping your Xbox to DCHP (reboot before attempting to connect to the PC) and hopefully that will work.

I've never tried to change that setting using the EvoX dash, it might well be a feature that can only be changed by editing the evox.ini.
I'll have a look* at that but the easiest thing to do, if you can, is install an UnleashX dash as an app. Without FTP and a dash with a file manger the best way I can think of doing that is using an AID, HeXen or similar disc.
All you really need is any UnleashX dash default.xbe. Put that in a folder in Apps and reboot. It will generate its own config.xml and item.xml launching a default state UnleashX dash. With that you just go into the System > Settings > Network settings and change it to DHCP, save and exit.
You can even test if DHCP will work just using the disc as the GUI for most installer discs like AID and HeXEn is simply a modified UnleashX dash. Getting FTP access via such discs is an important facility provided to help resolve problems like this.
*EDIT
Just checked my own Evox B3935 dash (installed as an app) and it should be a simple matter changing from Static to DHCP. No evox.ini editing required.
Just go the main menu> System Utils > Settings > 5th item down "Use Static IP". No doubt it is set to "Yes". I think you might not have realised that is an interactive option. Just click (A) on it and you should get a Yes/No option box. The L/R sticks are disabled for menu navigation with Evox so select "No" using Right on the d-pad. Click using (A) again to confirm and it should now show "Use Static IP No"
Scroll down through the rest of the menu and check that FTP is enabled in the same way and note the Password if it has been changed. The recommendation is to leave that at the default "xbox" unless you are a real security freak.
Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and remember to save before exiting.
Reboot and DHCP should be enabled - fingers crossed that it works.

GTA 3 does not require patching to run via HDD and no game requires patching to run via disc, especially retail discs. The only time the M$ Dash is fully functional with one of our mods is when there is a shadow C drive otherwise parts of it are disabled to avoid people getting Live banned (obviously not an issue anymore).
To get any functionality out of the M$ Dash the evoxs ini file must point to xb1xdash.xbe for any reference to the M$ Dash. Chances are the ini wasnt edited and is still pointing to either xboxdash.xbe or msdash.xbe.
If having a fully functional MS Dash is important to you then I suggest you download either Babylon2 Build 6-13 and use it to create an XBOX DVD installer and burn the ISO to disc and use it to install a mod with Shadow C. Or else grab AID 4.53 burn it to disc and use it to first remove the current mod then install one with Shadow C
