Hey you guys!
n00b here
hoping for some help. I'm trying to get games running in 480p, and I just can't get it working.
I have a PAL 1.6 xbox with modchip, component cables, running unleashx. I've set it to run in NTSC, and I've enabled 480p and 720p in unleashx's settings.
The dashboard boots into 720p no problem, and looks great. But when I launch a game it always drops to interlaced. According to my OSSC, it's outputting 576i.
I would expect this behavior launching my PAL disc games, but I've downloaded NTSC games specifically, and I'm running them off the HD, and I still get interlaced.
is there anything I'm missing?
cheers dudes!

The Enigmah Video Mode Select app is a tool that converts any NTSC box into a full PAL box so you get a full color output. Also works on JAP machines and PAL machines,(if you want to convert PAL to NTSC). Elminate all Black & White problems without the need for a full RGB lead. Press A to select PAL and Press B to select NTSC, press X and Y for a few extras _________________ HQ Network:

Thanks for the reply.
I'm already using the Enigmah video selector, it's how I set my Xbox to NTSC.
Pretty sure it's working, as I can get 720p out of it.
Just not 480p.......

Boot to the MS Dash and go to Settings and disable all video resolutions except 480P, now reboot and do the same in UnleashX. Reboot and you should be locked into 480P

The video settings in UnleashX are EEPROM SAFE!
Meaning they do not get stored to the EEPROM. They are used only while UnleashX is running.
You'll have to use the MS Dashboard to enable them permanently, stored into the EEPROM, so when a game loads it uses the higher resolutions.
Once UnleashX exits and the game loads, it reverts back to the EEPROM settings, not the resolutions set for the UnleashX dashboard.

I can confirm that ^ if anyone for some reason disagrees with kaos_engr.
Having a working MS dash is pretty much essential IMHO.
Of course this is different from the more usual problem with resolution settings which is most often caused by a softmod's built in Virtual/Shadow C + eeprom protection.
This case is/was a bit odd though because if it is correct that he used the Enigmah region changer how does a PAL Xbox changed to NTSC apparently output 576i as claimed?
There is a Force PAL60 option in UneashX's video settings but that should still be 480i, indistiguishable from NTSC. So how did he get a PAL50 (576i/50Hz) output from what is effectively a NTSC console?
I too use a v1.6 originally PAL console as my primary Xbox. The difference between 480p and 576i/50Hz is very obvious and I've never seen this problem. The only problem you get is with that small list of games that won't launch in 480p on a v1.6 unless you use a specific loader.
The only thing I can think of to explain this is that some of the PAL games being used were on that list. For the reason explained by kaos_engr they may be reverting to 576i rather than 480i.
Only speculating really because I can't test it on my TV as it does not provide resolution information. But what it may mean is that originally the Xbox MS dash PAL60 option was not ticked so the eeprom was set to support PAL50 ie. 576i only.

@ArchAngle I think I was misreading the OSSC display, and was in fact getting 480i

Five years for a reply - that has to be some sort of record here.
Anyway, thanks for the info.

heh heh, yeah. I'm a bit slow!
I've only just got out the og beast again, and this time realised that I'd probably read the display wrong. The OSSC has a single mode to handle 420i and 576i, and I just misinterpreted the display.
Once again, thanks for your help, all
