Hello everyone/anyone,
I have recently just started modding my original xbox. I have softmodded it with the game exploit and installed the XBMC dashboard as my main dash.
Now I'm trying to upgrade my HDD to a 250GB to be able to get some emulators for it.
anyway, I'm stuck at the HDD upgrade. Every time I plug in my Ethernet cable to FTP the files over I have about 10 seconds before the whole system freezes up. I have tried do the router connection and just connecting straight to my pc, neither are working. I'm wondering if I have a bad dashboard that I installed or something else is going on. I've read all over the place and I cant find this issue anywhere else. I ordered a crossover cable to try in a few days but I have a feeling its something more than just the cable.
I have tried to clear out the cache from the E drive> restart = still freezes after I connect the Ethernet cable.

I was going to suggest clearing the cache out of your E: drive but it looks like you have already done that. Have you had any further progress? _________________ XBOX 360 ELITE:

I'd be asking whether the ethernet cable being used is a ordinary "patch" one or cross-over. If connecting via a router then it should be an ordianry "patch" cable but if connecting the PC direct a cross-over is still recommended.
Most modern PCs, but maybe not all, can detect the connections being used and will alter the output/input channels on the cable whatever type is used. By still using a cross-over for direct connection you exclude that as the cause of any problems.
BTW try connecting the Xbox with the ethernet cable whilst powered off and see if the same thing happens. Repeat with the Xbox on and reboot the PC.
If you're connecting direct try using a Static IP address (192.168.0.2) rather than DHCP. You'll need to alter your PC network/local area connection settings for this too (192.168.0.1).
However more usually with FTP problems like this it is a PC firewall or even (AV) anti-virus issue. You should check that your Xbox is an allowed connection. How you do that depends on the firewall/AV. For understandable reasons security software can be problematic when you want to set up a FTP connection with another device.

Did you ever solve the situation of your Xbox freezing shortly after the Ethernet cable is plugged in?
If so, what resolved the problem?
