I've recently wanted to play some old xbox games without spending too much, so I have decided to softmod my only working original xbox. I sent some files over and now the console wont go passed the microsoft xbox screen. I don't have much backed up as I've only read a few tutorials and wanted to go for the no game, no mem-card route.
TLDR: Harddrive is locked and the console won't go as far to unlock it, need halp.

You're going to have to explain exactly how you "sent the files over".
You can't FTP to a Xbox unless you've at least installed a game save exploit and that apprently contradicts what you said about wanting to go the "no game, no mem-card route".
Whatever tutorials you found and method used can't have been very good because the first thing they should tell you is to back everything up before proceeding. That would include the eeeprom which is what you'll probably need now to be able to unlock the HDD.

I Hot-swapped to get the hdd unlocked , and then used a IDE to usb cable to get at it on my PC, and then opened the hdd with xplorer360 to insert files.
I followed this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuZ64AMoKsw
and another tutorial which I can't find ATM, the other tutorial is where it instructed me on inserting the files.

Interesting video, although the guys hot-swap technique has a lot to be desired.
It worked for him though but what is missing is the really important part: the folders/file insertion and where he put what. Unfortunately I am no expert on the hot-swap method but I would think it likely that either you didn't put an important file on the correct drive or something was missing......who knows?
But why can't the HDD drive now be unlocked by the same method? That I don't understand. The worst case possibilty is that the hot-swapping has damaged the HDD. Second worse case is that is was somehow locked with the wrong eeprom.
Maybe it is just the dash that is broken and the softmod is otherwise OK. You may be able to launch a disc like HeXEn (burned to DVR-R) and used as instructed it will sort out whatever the problem is.
But if that won't even cold boot then you've a problem I'm not experienced enough to advise you about. You really need advice from someone who has used the hot-swap method themself.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
EDIT:-
I've since asked about this problem at several other places and the best advice I found was this:-
"........unless the guy has a bckup of the eeprom (im guessing not since hes hotswapping) he has to hotswap to a pc running xboxhdm. If the xbox isnt unlocking the hdd on its own as you say then his best bet is to unplug the dvd drive to force error 12. Then the hdd should be unlocked. Then use xboxhdm to restore the hdd back to factory state and try modding again".
Power down your computer and disconnect all devices except for the mouse, keyboard, monitor and the hard drive that you are trying to unlock. Make note of whether your hard drive is plugged into the Primary or Secondary IDE channel.
Now boot your computer with with your usb drive and run the following command:
zu /p (for primary)
zu /s (for secondary)
In a matter of seconds you should see that your hard drive is unlocked.
