Hi everyone, I've been lruking for a while here but I made a username since this community kicks butt.
So, I have an issue that I would like some insight on.
Here goes:
I have a softmodded xbox that I upgraded the hard drive in. I used the last version of SID with the game saves to launch the installer. I have both hard drives and both are fine... however. On the upgraded hard drive I did something dumb.
I was showning my friend how to softmod his xbox with the SID installer, using my box as the example. When showing him how to upgrade to the 5960 MSDash I accidentally hit the start xbox live troubleshooter on Halo 2. The troubleshooter showed a progress bar and then reverted to the msdash.
NOW, The console always goes to the msdash. Funny thing is that the reset function of unleashx still works, but it resets to the msdash. I assume that either the dash priority got changed or unleashx got overwritten to an extent. NOTE: I cant verify this since I can't view the filesystem or use FTP.
I tried recopying the SID installer exploit to the harddrive and got the mechassualt and the Splinter Cell exploit on there, with a fresh SID installer, latest versions. However, launching these exploits results in the following.
Splinter Cell Freezes (I dont think it ever worked on my box to begin with)
Mechaassult launches exploit but it merely resets the game and never shows the installer menu.
So for that HDD I feel I am out of options without installing a mod chip.
Luckily, my original harddrive is still good and is softmodded so im using that for now. I also redumped the eeprom and hdd key using evox.
So my question is: Could I reinstall unleashx to the upgraded hdd without having to delete everthing? Also, is there a way to do it without finding an old ATA ribbon cable connector? I know I could Chimp the harddrive but Id rather not do that and loose everything. Could I just unlock the drive and mess with the C partition? Or is my only option to reperform the hdd upgrade with xbox hdd manager?
FYI I also have a seperate xbox with a modchip if that could be used at all.
Thanks everyone! /James

Don't have a solution to your problem with the console booting to M$dash instead of a modded dash.
Did you back up your EEPROM.bin file? If so, I'd suggest reformatting the console's upgraded with SPPV's autobuilder v5.1 or Babylon using the EEPROM.bin file that is tied to your console as a last resort.
The nice thing about autobuilder is that will only wipe the C and E drives, if you store games on F or G, they shouldn't get touched during the reformatting process, at least that's how it happened with me once.

Hello. Yup I have the eeprom binary backed up from the original harddrive that came with the box. Ill try that solution.
Thanks!

Yeah, I can't speak to what you might have done. There is a lot about softmodding I don't understand, the very least I can suggest you is using your EEPROM to create another reformatted xbox drive from scratch.
Think of it as a nuclear version of a system restore lol

I resolved this issue by using the built in file explorer in xboxhdm after uinlocking my hdd with the eeprom key. I manually restored my upgraded HDD to the Evox installed to my standard hdd and then overwrote it in the xbox with UnleashX.
Admins, feel free to lock this topic as it is complete. _________________ Still waiting for Shenmue 3.

Great!
Glad you were able to use xboxhdm to figure out how to get your console working the way you wanted again.
Thanks for the suggestion, I wrote solved in the subject line.
