I all. I recently purchased a used xbox, rev 1.0, and it came softmodded. Since the softmod was older, I downloaded the AIO disk and reinstalled the evolutionX dashboard with all of the extras. When I rebooted my xbox, its only going to the default xbox menu. I cannot get it to go to evolutionX!

It's already running on a new HD, which doesn't seem to be causing problems.

How do I recover? I use the xbox mostly as a media center, XBMC, and I desperately need this back for tomorrow evening.

Thanks!

You could always just reinstall the softmod from the AID disk. Do you have any info already saved on the new HDD other than XBMC app?

I have tons of files on the F drive. Its a 200GB drive.
I still have the old, softmodded 8GB drive, but I want to save my F drive!

Can I do that from the AID disk, or do I need the save game, etc. method?

Thanks

Just tried using the AID boot DVD again. Nothing. XBox dashboard boots and complains it cannot read the DVD!

UGH!

Am I hosed?

I'm not sure if you are hosed or not. It sounds as tho you accidently did something while you were trying to update and possibly wiped out the softmod. It seems as tho your Xbox is not recognizing that it is modded. What are you asking about that you can do from the AID disc?

I need to know two things:
1. Can I softmod from any easy source, or am I back to buying one of the games, getting a memory unit, and softmodding from scratch? (Can I use the old HD and the copy program to resoftmod the hdd since I have the eprom backup?)
2. Is the data I have on the F: drive lost?

Thanks,

Greydesk

Ok, check your MS Dash and see if you still have the game save exploit on your HDD from whatever game you used.If you do, then you can simply reinstall the softmod from the AID disc. Nothing should be lost, but don't hold me too that. Don't panic either, because I don't think you've done anything major to erase your files unless there is something you did that you are leaving out or forgetting to mention Check for the game save exploit and let me know what you see.

Not panic'n yet. Smile

I will look on the saved games, but the main problem here is that I did not softmod this machine myself. I bought it second hand and discovered that it was soft modded.

I will check to see if there is a saved game on the machine, but I don't currently own any of the games used to softmod.

I used xboxhdm 1.9 to make my new drive. I should be able to use the same bootable disk to rebuild the c:/ and get back to where I was, right?

Yep. That worked. Have my original evolutionX dashboard, F: drive intact, extra apps from AID are on F as well.

Will try again later, with another drive or something.

I know this tread is kind of old but I pretty much have the same problem. I used the MechAssault exploit to softmod my xbox and AID to install Evox. Everything worked great. Upgraded to 200 GB hard drive and have been working fine for months.

I lent my xbox to a friend who says all he did was watch DVDs on it. When I got it back, it was booting to the default MS dashboard. I thought, well all I have to do is plug in the MechAssault disk and redo it. When I went to Campaign and ran "Run Linux", it ran for a second or two and then returned to MechWarrior.

I then went into the Hard disk memory and deleted both the SID5 Mech assault exploit and the SID 5.1 Installer. I then copied new ones to the hard disk like I did originally. I restarted MechAssault and tried it again. I got the same failure.

I then tried to boot from an AID disk that I have used many times in the past successfully. The Xbox says it can not readthe dsik. I have tried both hot and cold starts for the AID disk and the MechWarrior disk.

I have the modded original HD and a backup of the EEPROM.

I am hoping that there is an easy workaround rather than rebuilding 200 GB of files. Thanks for you help in adavnce.

I had that happen on my 1.1 Xbox that I TSOPed. Once I rebuilt the hard drive using Xboxhdm it booted the softmod right up. I'm guessing it had something to do with the E:\cache needing to be cleared, but that wasn't possible.

Another thing that can cause that is having another mech assault save game. You need to make sure that you delete all save games for mech assault except for the SID one.

I think what happened was something like this

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/lofiversion/index.php/t469637.html

I ened up putting the original modded drive back in and rebuilding the borked 200 Gig drive.

I wish I knew how to repair the damage caused by the DVD disk. In this case it was the movie Chronicles or Riddick. When you try to play it, it immediately starts to overwrite your dash.
