or
since the xbox's new hdd is inside my computer, if i could somehow manually put everything on it.

Unfortunately you can't burn AID to multiple CDs easily. If you took apart the original ISO and put the files on seperate discs it "may" work, but you'd have to remember which CD had each lot of files.
FTP would be the easiest way, extract the Xbox ISO (using C-Xbox Tools or UltraISO), then FTP the installer over to your Xbox. Put it in your Apps Directory (for example E:\Appx\AID\) and your dashboard should be able to pick it up.

I noticed we have retired torrents of a lite version running around 590mb on the AID page, is there no where now to DL that?

is it bad if an 11 year old harddrive starts ticking after running for 5 or 6 hours?

yes and no, it could be nothing I have a 320 WD SATA that does that but passes checkdisk with flying colours and hasnt had data corruption issues. 11 years is way more than warranty the longest ive seen is 5 years. But it could also be an issue with the platters, Id get a back up of C, E and EEPROM.bin made then let things run their course. It could last another 11 years or it could die tommorow no one can say for sure. Except maybe John Edwards

Like I said FTP in and get a backup that way if it does fail you can just build a nice big drive instead of that wimpy 8GB stock M$ drive. Really a mod is wasted if youre stuck using the stock drive
