I was reading through the release NFO for Unleashxv039 and saw it had been updated to at least theoreticaly support external HDD if formated in FAT32 with up to 4 partitions/ Logical Drives, but that limited testing had been done and only thumbdrives up to 8GB had been tested. Has anyone tried it? What brand did you use? What was the allocation size at format? What program did you use to format the drive in FAT32?. Im gonna be doing some testing with desktop and portable HDD and using Aluratek dock, and various brands and sizes, 250GB Toshiba, 320Gb WD, 500GB Hitachi and 500Gb Free Agent and will post my results here. I encourage others to do the same

I can get it to recognize a 320GB SATA WD external and a 250GB Toshiba SATA in a dock but it keeps coming up as drive N (not formated) and when I try to format it says it failed, MS Dash says it cant recognize, XBMC says unable to mount, and I cant get any XBOX formating apps to show it just E F and G

Does anyone know of a formating app for xbox similar to ones like partition wizard that will scan for drives not just preset ones and can handle formating a fat32 drive, I dont mind partitioning them if they are to big for a formating program to recognize. The only one I can even get to see the drive is Unleashx File Manager and when I try it fails

I dont know if that is going to work.
I suppose if you have a bios that supports large drives then theoretically its possible.
usb is slow and crappy any time its used for hard drives, but the xbox has usb 1.1. If you plan to use it for anything you'd better pack a sack lunch and a flashlight because its gonna be awhile before you get anything off those drives.
I dont think most external usb drives would even work without a high speed usb port. I dont own any so I couldn't be sure. I dont think you will get around it if it is a hardware limitation.
