I have read many tutorials but it looks like there are a few problems I would run into during the process. But first, I have a few questions, I dont want to ruin my xbox if for some reason something fails, is this putting my whole Xbox at risk, or just the Hard Drive itself? And if the upgrade fails, could I simply just put my old hard drive in? I dont know which hard drive to buy, im looking at something with about 100-150GB. What is the most simple method of upgrading the Xbox hard drive, I have looked at a ton of methods, but I dont know what one is the best and most easy. Is there a chance of my computer being damaged through any of the boot disk's? Does my xbox version matter, if so please explain?

Thanks,
LegendaryFire

Since you have a softmod, i would say the easiest way would be to use chimp

Chimp for 1.6 xbox:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-255.html

Chimp for 1.0-1.5 xbox:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-260.html

If you have a 1.6 xbox, then you need to use the top tutorial.
If you try to upgrade and it fails, i'm pretty sure it won't mess up your xbox, but maybe your old harddrive. I have a 200 GB harddive and it's plenty for me. I backup my games and use emulators. Of course i only download games i already own.

How can I tell which Xbox version I have? I have the Xbox Crystal Limited Edition. And apparently that means I have a version 1.5 or 1.6. And the factory code is "05". This is what I have read, "If the factory code is "05" (China), you have at least a 1.1 Xbox. ". Is there a application that can detect my xbox version? And I hope to not open my xbox. But if I am going to do this I will have to at one point or another. Haha. Where is a good place to get a hard drive for a good price?

Okay, I just used Xbox Media Center to get that info, I have the xBox version 1.6. But I dont like the jumpers and splitters. Could I just use XboxHDM? If so could is there a different method for the Xbox Version 1.6 aswell?

I have used Xbox HD maker about 6 times with success and I installed into 1.6s and 1.4s.

You will need your eeprom backup. You probably backed it up when you done your softmod.

You should find it at E:\udata\21585554\00000000 (not sure how many 0s)

You will need the eeprom.bin file.

Hope this helps

I think I will try using the XboxHDM. Now, just to buy a Hard Drive. Anyone know a hard drive that wont cost over $100 but is fairly good?

I live in Canada, haha. Few questions about the hard drive itself. Does it have to be new or can it be old & formatted?

I have used a second hand 80gig seagate drive from a faulty PVR ( after testing it with seagate software ), and it worked worked fine.

You check for compatibility at:
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/modules.php?name=Xbox_HardDrives
or:
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com

HD maker will reformat it for you (someone correct me if I am wrong). Read the Howto.txt file that comes with the download.

Good luck finding a HDD

Thanks for the help! One question, should I be worried about ruining my computer or xbox if something goes wrong? Ill post back if I run into any other problems during this process!

With adventure there is risk!

If you follow the instructions it should be fine, but i can't guarantee.

Read lots of forums and tutorials to give yourself some confidence.
