I'm kind of a newb at this softmodding thing, but I got the softmod installed, burned a DVD-R with AID v4.10, booted into AID, installed emulators, apps and ROMS. Then, when I restarted the xbox, it just hung on the boot screen that shows the cube with the X in it. I started to freak, but then popped the AID dvd back in, turned off the box and booted back into AID. Is there something I need to do to get back into UnleashX?
Thanks in advance.

If AID still boots reinstall UnleashX and see if it will boot then. _________________

Ok, I booted back into AID and reinstalled UnleashX on the C drive, pulled out the DVD, turned off the box and turned it back on. It still hangs on the cube with the X in it.
I even tried telling AID to reinstall the softmod with UnleashX in it.
Could it be because I included add-on skins in the AID? What should I try next? It still boots into AID just fine. Should I uninstall UnleashX and install a different dashboard? Should I restore the MS backup and start again?
Thanks.

Strange. It was hung on the cube & X, but then when I put the AID DVD in the drive, it booted into UnleashX. I'll see if it keeps working and come back and update.

"reinstalled UnleashX on the C drive"
If your xbox is soft moded you might want to reinstall the ms dash to the C drive and install the unleash-x to the E drive.

Now you've got me confused. I did this. I uninstalled UnleashX from the C drive, installed the MS dash to the C drive, installed UnleashX to the E drive and then rebooted. That put me into the MS dash. If UnleashX is installed to the E drive, then how do I get it to boot into UnleashX?
Thanks for the help. Still getting the hang of all of this.

If you use the aid disc to install a softmod dash it will put the shortcut xbe in the c drive for you.

Wes, thanks. I think I get it now, but I'll have to go back and try again. So within the AID disc, there is an option to install a softmod with the dash located on a drive other than C, which would leave the MS dash in-tact on C. I guess I didn't notice that earlier.
omg. I'm going to go crazy with this.
So since I put the MS dash back on C, I had to reinstall the softmod using Splintercell. The only thing is, when I select "checkpoints", the screen flashes white and then goes back to the beginning of the Splintercell disc where it says Ubisoft. Then it starts like nothing happened, but the LED color around the open button is amber instead of green. WTF? So it's not going into UnleashX or Evox or anything...
I figured that since the LED's are amber, it might mean that I could open it, put in the AID disc and be all good. Nope, when I open it and the LED's are amber, it shuts before it fully opens and boots to the game normally. Now what should I do?

I'll list out everything I've done so far, including what I've already said, just to give a better picture.
1. Used Action Replay to put linux SID and the splinter cell exploit onto my xbox hard drive.
2. Ran Splinter Cell and accessed the exploit.
3. Created MS backup.
4. Created Mod backup.
5. Installed softmod.
6. Installed UnleashX.
7. Rebooted the xbox into UnleashX.
8. Installed XBMC.
9. Fooled around with XBMC attempting to get it to communicate with my UPnP server and was only halfway successful.
10. Downloaded AID v4.10
11. Edited the ISO to include the dummy file and most of the add ons.
12. Burned the AID dvd-rom.
13. Ran AID to put some emulators and other programs onto the xbox.
14. Rebooted the Xbox and it hung at the cube w/ red X splash screen.
15. Rebooted into AID. Uninstalled roms and a few of the programs.
16. Rebooted the Xbox. It hung again.
17. Came here and posted about it.
18. Took the first advice, messed around some more and got it to boot into UnleashX by installing UnleashX to the C: drive.
19. Came back here, read your post.
20. Booted into AID again, removed UnleashX from the C: drive.
21. Installed MS dash to the C: drive.
22. Installed UnleashX to the E: drive.
23. Rebooted the Xbox into the MS dash.
24. Tried to run a program, though I figured it wouldn't work in the MS dash. I was right. It didn't.
25. Put the AID disc into the drive, just to see if the softmod would still boot it. It loaded the MS dash and said that it didn't recognize that game disc.
26. Figured that meant I needed to reinstall the softmod to get into UnleashX and then AID, so I tried. This is when it flashed white and went right back to booting the game.
I never told AID to remove the softmod, I just didn't reinstall the softmod when I put the MS dash back on the C: drive. So this is probably why when I go through Splinter Cell, it acts funny. So is there a way that I can get back to a non-MS dash?
Thanks for the help so far...

Im not sure what makeing your xbox loop back to the game or keeping the disc tray from opening all the way but as a last ditch thing you can do a full repair with this tut, http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-161.html
Now like i said i wold not do this unless you feel you have done all you can with no luck in repairing it.

Man, I hate to do that... I'd have to borrow someone's desktop as all I have is a laptop.
The tray will open if it boots into MS dash, but once I try to reinstall the softmod and the LED goes to amber, then the tray won't open all the way. When the LED is amber, the tray will open about 1 inch and then go back into the case and the box will reboot and load the game. When that happens, the LED turns back to green.
I wonder if I need to try to softmod with a different game now or something. I don't understand why it won't load the softmod dashboard from Splintercell. At least I know it's not bricked and I can play regular xbox games on it still, but the point of all this was to unlock it. /sigh
