This site helped in my first problem of restoring my evox dashboard. Now, per suggestion, I'm trying to install a "better" dash, specifically XBMC. I've downloaded AID 4.0, put some add on pack skins on the ISO and burned a DVD, which boots fine. Then I selected the following:
Dashboard Selection
Install C Drive dash (Softmod)
XMBC for Larger Drives
The install seemed okay so I rebooted and now XB is stuck at start up. What did I miss? Here is my series of questions:
1. Is a TSOP mod considered hardware or software for AID?
2. Using AIS File Manager I see the following HD partitions, what are they all for?
C: ? Some type of root I'm guessing 343 MB free
D: ? Not even seen by the AID screen 840 MB free
E: ? Found a Linux install. I have 0 MB free
F: ? Seems to be a data drive for game back ups 606 MB free
G: ? Exists but the size is 0MB
X: ? 768 MB
Y: ? 768 MB
Z: ? 768 MB
3. Now that I can't boot my xbox, what do I do? Am I supposed to do a "One-Click" install and if so, do I use Modchip or Softmod? If softmod do I use single or dual / Virtual or No Virtual.
4. Finally, before I break anything else is it possible to back up my data to an external computer/harddrive so as not to loose anything if the whole thing explodes?
I tried to look these answers up on the AID tutorials, but it is several versions old and seems aimed at experts vice noobs. Thanks for the help in advance. _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum

Snipped from a chat with Burner6999:
Go to format section and format the C drive then install Xbmc from the dash section and just select C drive then retail hdd and dont use softmod dash
then also in stall XBMC to there the same way you did to C but choose E instead then once that is done you can reboot and see if it works
That way if one ever has a problem it will try to boot the other
To my questions
1. this means TSOP should be treated as hardware mod. That is why my first install failed.
4. To backup get flash fxp for pc and pull the data from the xbox. _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum

And to your second question. The partions are:
C: Boot area, for softmod etc
D: DVD drive (the disc)
E: Game saves etc (Stuck with 4 gigs there.)
F: Extra space.
G: Used for HDDs over 128 gigs
X/Y/Z: Spare partions, don't worry about them.

Thanks. Figured out the D: today. Boy did I feel like an idiot. Next I'll be asking how to fix my coffee cup holder or where the "any" key is.
So I was going to ask if it was possible to resize the E: drive. You answered that, but why is it limited? Does it have to do the partition size on the original xbox HD?
And when installing a dashboard, does it have to go into the E drive? Can it go into C? Reason I ask is, using AID, I chose to install XBMC in the C but then it came up with options for retail (E), Large (E+F), and Larger (E+F+G). That confused me. _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum

Where your dash has to be is determined by how your bios is set up. As for your since you got your bios from me, I know how I set it up.

Questions aside, I must say I'm thrilled with my "new" xbox. (I know it's the same one, but it feels like new.) I love XBMC and think the default skin is great. I haven't tried any others.
Also thanks for all the support from the community and again to Burner6999 for the chats. _________________ Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum
