Had a hard drive crash on my original xBox. Ordered a ModChip (x3 CE), should be here tomarrow or the next day.
I am going to install a 80 gig hard drive in.
There are so many tutorials, I am curious if someone could point me to a couple good ones that could aid me in getting my xBox back up and running. I have a copy of AID 3.10, will this help?
I also have eVox and NDure.
As I read about the chip, I have one question? What are the purpose for mutliple banks?
I havent found much on running soft and hard together, is this safe.
Just wanting to pack the box with as much goodies as possible.

What adapter did you buy? The adapt3r? go to
http://www.team-xecuter.com/flashbios
and also
http://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-190.html
the first one explains how to get a "hacked" bios on the chip and the second is one of the tutorials i used to install my chip last week... very simple... also there's info at the first site about installing the chip too.. just look around for a bit..

I purchased the X3 CE Combo Kit (solderless adapter and front panel replacement). Should be here today. xBox version 1.4
I just finished reading the AID 3.10 manual. Nicely done!
With the links provided and AID, this should go smoothly.
May have a fight on my hands with my 18 yr old son, After seeing what I can do with an xBox, I may keep this for myself.

I have the chip installed. But found out even if you buy the soderless adapter, you still need to soder the LED for HD and LAN. Ugh. Oh well.
All 3 power on switch setting swork correctly.
I have the BIOS flashed to 3.0.3
I have the AID 3.10 DVD made.
But cannot figure out how to get the DVD to load.
When turning on the xBox is keeps booting to the X3 CE flash BIOS screen.
How do I get the AID to start so I can build the hard drive?

first you have to flash a "hacked" bios on there.. thats why i put the second link on my first post.. it explains flashing a hacked bios, i recommend bios X3 3294.

Thanks stud_man50,
That did the trick. Iread about using 3294, but though I would see how far I could get with the chip 'out of the box', not far hehe.
Got eVox 2.7 to work now.
And got AID CD to work if I use the base install, without all the addons. Cannot get a DVD version to run yet with addons. I am using a dummy file also.
But so farIve learned alot and have the xbox up and running now. Been playing around with it for hours. I think the wife is mad at me. hehe.

figured out the DVD drive had problems reading burnt DVD's.
I got around this by using a power y-splitter and plugging an extra IDE DVD drive into the IDE, instead of using the factory DVD drive, and was able to boot and read burnt DVD's.
This helpped out alot to get a burnt DVD to read.

Got the xBox back up and running.
I didnt leave the DVD drive in, I put the factory xBox back in after I was done using it to boot with.
AID 3.10 was very helpful. The Single Click Install went without a hitch. Got stuck a bit with trying to get several dashboards loaded trying to use the xSelect. But I will get it one of these days. Once I understand the folder structure and how everything is laid out on the drive, it will go soother.
Now I am thinking about buying a xBox for myself, just so I can play with it and these installs. Since I am a coder, I am now wondering if I could come up with some good apps.
I want to thank the site and those that helpped me get the xBox back up. I have donated to the site, and will be around some more.
Thanks Again, I enjoyed working with this stuff.
