I'm new to the Xbox and AID, so naturally I've got a few questions. The first one is from Chapter 7 of the AID 3.0 Manual (http://www.aideluxe.com/manuals_aid30_07.html#chapter). It mentions there that you can format C: and reinstall the MS Dashboard. Is the Dashboard basically the operating system of the Xbox? If I were to format C: I would I be wiping the whole Xbox (I know there is also a E: for saved games but I'm assuming on a new Xbox it would be empty)? So just to confirm ... AID gives me the power to completely wipe and reinstall everything on the Xbox as if it was brand new?
If my understanding is correct, then I'll start off by playing around with everything and simply wiping everything once I'm ready to set my Xbox up for good, without having to worry about some settings, etc. lingering around.
Thanks,
Harry

Hold the horses.
Before you start deleting things, are you softmodded or chipped, for if you're softmodded, you're about to enter a world of hurt formating C. _________________ http://twitter.com/HQ_Shark2th

I'm gonna be softmodding the Xbox (via SID) (haven't done anything yet, wanna ask tons of questions before I start a thing ... Xbox is brand new sitting in the box waiting ).

Like the Koala Brothers... We're here to help!!
(Yes I have a little kid that dug the show)
Only a fully trained Jedi can defeat the evil forces of M$.
Homework is good, rushing is bad.
Ask questions and we shall answer.
Help you we will.
Do it, you can.
Easy it shall be.
Stop talking like Yoda, I can not.
Basically what I would like to know is if I softmod my Xbox (via SID), install all the different apps (via AID) that are available so I can play around with them and see if I need/want them, can I afterwards somehow return the XBox hard drive to a condition like what it was when it first came out of the box?
Thanks,
Harry

Yes, assuming you have a reliable power(power outages after you format but before you restore the files suck ) then you should be fine. Even then you can download the MS dash files, and accompanied with a copy of the eeprom.bin file on your PC you can revert any changes you make with a PC.
Couple tips:
1. Read read read, but it looks like your off to a good start there.
2. Always keep a backup of your eeprom.bin file when you softmod. This will allow you unlock and relock the HDD should the file become corrupt. An unlocked HDD means you can use some specially designed PC apps to return your HDD to stock
3. The search function of this forum works great and can reveal lots of good info
4. There is almost always someone logged into the HQ irc room: stressed.storgehouse.net #xbox-hq
5. Don't trust anything said by therealhypnotix
Is the MS Dashboard required to play games? Or in other words if the MS Dashboard is wiped (ie: by formatting C, is it still possible to boot up an original game (and possibly rerun the softmod?)
Thanks,
Harry

Yes, you will recieve an error 21. Then, all you do with that is pop in the softmod game, turn off the system, then turn it on with the power button and wait. Simple, sweet and done. Just don't rely on it as a key to get you out of a jam. If you should ever get an error 5 or something like that, then you're going to need your eeprom.bin. MAKE SURE TO FTP EEPROM.BIN TO YOUR COMPUTER FOR SAFE KEEPING. I cannot stress that enough. _________________ "That which does not kill you, only makes you stronger."
