hi Kaedo,
Only the SAMSUNG XBOX DVDROM DRIVE will read cdr's..
The thompson will read CDRW's but is very very picky.
You will need to burn your bios onto a couple of different brands of cdrw's and boot in your xbox..
There are 3 main XBOX DVD DRIVES:
- Samsung (kick ass CDR/CDRW/DVD-R/DVD+R etc etc)
- Thompson (CDRW/DVD-R)
- Phillips (CDRW/DVD-R)

I replied to your VIP ticket. Since you have a Xenium Ice you can also just FTP the bios.bin file to your C drive/folder on your xbox's Hard Drive. If you have FTP skills, which you are eventually going to need, then this will truly be the easiest way for you.
I have made a post in regard to this yesterday, let me know if you need the info.

I just installed an Aladdin Live and had the same issues with CD/DVD media. The drive would not read what I had! After several hours of frustration, I stumbled upon a thread on a forum where someone hooked up a computer DVD drive to the XBOX and that worked like a charm for me.
Here's an excerp from a guide you can use (from evolutionx.info):
t's possible to connect a normal PC DVD-drive to your XBox.
This is very useful if your XBox has a bad laser. A pc DVD-drive will not only give better results for DVD-r/rw, but also for CD-r/rw.
A pc DVD-drive will play pretty much all brands and load times will be shorter then when using the official XBox DVD-drive.
What you need?
* A pc DVD-drive a normal PC power splitter (4 Pin Power Connector for 5.25 Drive, like used in normal PCs)
* An original XBox game a modded XBox console
* An original XBox game
* a modded XBox console
The Installation
Put your PC DVD-drive in slave-mode.
Open the top of your XBox.
Leave the XBox DVD-drive in its slot. (You cannot just replace the drive; in order to make this work you will need both drives).
Put the PC DVD-drive on top of the XBox DVD-drive.
Disconnect the IDE cable on the XBox DVD-drive and connect it to the PC DVD-drive.
Leave the 8wire yellow cable on the XBox DVD-drive.
Disconnect the XBox HDD Power cable and connect the power-splitter on it. Now connect one end of the splitter back to the XBox HDD and the other end to the PC DVD-drive.
FYI: I didn't have a power splitter, so I grabbed my computer and hooked up the DVD drive to the power supply from my computer....when you're all done, you can hook the XBOX DVD drive back.
