SCEE Launching PS3 ‘Pick N Mix’ Bundle

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is launching a new PlayStation 3 bundle offer later this week, and hopes that its "actual retail value" saving of £30 will help drive sales.
The new offering, dubbed ‘Pick N Mix’ by Sony, will include a 40GB PS3 console and two premium games for £349.99 when it launches on Friday, January 18.

A host of recent first party titles are included in the offer, including Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, SingStar PS3 (with microphones) and Ratchet and Clank: Tools Of Destruction.

Leading UK retailer Game currently offers a 40GB PS3 with one title - Golden Compass, Stuntman: Ignition and Def Jam: Icon are the choices - for £299. By chucking in a second game for an extra £50 the Pick N Mix bundle doesn’t offer anything in the way of cash savings for consumers (Uncharted retails separately for £35 while SingStar and Ratchet cost £40), although it does allow shoppers to pick up two of the console’s leading titles as part of the deal.

UPDATE

Next-Gen contacted Sony UK to get some further info on the new bundle, which it says will save consumers £30.

“Retailers can choose this offer or - as frequently happens - can make their own offering. There is no imperative from SCEE for retailers to take up this offer, it is voluntary - but we suggest it in good faith to provide a hopefully helpful suggestion," the platform holder said in an email.

“Savvy consumers will be fairly familiar with this and will shop around in the knowledge that different deals will often exist in the marketplace often in the same time frame and that a little footwork will enable them to find a deal that offers the value that best appeals to them. Our current offering represents an actual retail value of approx £380, and this has the advantage of offering a £30 saving and the ability to choose two of the best first party games currently available.”

Other titles involved in the offer, which will run ‘until further notice’, include Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall Of Man, Folklore, Warhawk (with headset), Formula One, L.A.I.R and Genji: Days of the Blade.
