Mass Effect Readies for the Masses

Coming from the distinguished developer behind Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights, BioWare’s latest sci-fi RPG effort, Mass Effect, is expected to be one of the Xbox 360’s heavy-hitters from both a critical and commercial standpoint this holiday.
 With Mass Effect now "gold," the game should arrive in stores on November 20 as scheduled, in time for the Thanksgiving shopping rush.
Publisher Microsoft will also be releasing a collector’s edition through participating retailers, which includes a 36-page fiction book, a separate art book and a behind-the-scenes bonus DVD.
As part of the release ramp-up, consumers who pre-order Mass Effect will receive a bonus disc with a documentary, gamer pics, Xbox Live Dashboard themes and more.
BioWare and its sibling studio Pandemic were purchased earlier this month by gaming giant Electronic Arts in a deal worth $860 million.
