Report: Ubisoft Not Behind SCi Bid

An unnamed Ubisoft source has denied speculation that the publisher is eyeing a buyout of UK-based Tomb Raider house SCi Entertainment.
“We are not in discussion with SCi Entertainment any more than we are with any other company in the industry,” the source told the Financial Times.
 On Tuesday, SCi confirmed that it was in “extremely preliminary” buyout talks with an undisclosed suitor.
Eidos has been the subject of buyout scrutiny in the past, as Time Warner had been long-rumored to acquire SCi, eventually buying a 10 percent stake in the company. Ubisoft is also believed to be behind a 2005 SCi approach.
UK publication The Guardian ran a story earlier this week speculating that France’s Ubisoft is behind this most recent approach as well.
The Financial Times cited a source close to SCi who said that a private equity firm would be more likely to initiate a buyout than a trade player.
