Some popular Peer-2-Peer sites have gone the way of the dinosaurs. Are more going to be on the chopping block?

According to TechSpot.com, 34 people were arrested and their computer equipment seized in a police raid. The site is not name in the article but is believed to have been Youceff Torrents which has been down for a few days now.

Today, probably the leading torrent site SuprNova.org was shutdown, with a somewhat strangely worded Goodbye on the main page. Apparently the site was taken down at the owner's, Sloncek, decision, and not forceably. Suprnova was based out of the country of Slovakia and they had no laws in place that made Suprnova in any way illegal in that country. Suprnova was also in the beta stages of a new peer-2-peer application named eXeem at the time of the sites demise. Word of the programs future is still up in the air. Part of Sloncek's goodbye, "SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it. We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links", leads me to beleive that they have plans on bringing the site back, but featuring their new eXeem instead of torrents.

And finally, some other site closing that i have never used or have knowledge of are ed2k? sites. I have never used ed2k and don't even know what it is :P but Shareconnector, Releases4U, FinReactor, and AntiReactor (all ed2k sites) have been shut down aswell. According to another source, the FIOD-ECD (tax and economic crimes police), seized 4 servers in Rotterdam that hosted the 2 biggest edonkey sites in Holland, Releases4U and ShareConnector. Eight people were arrested and 11 computers were seized, for "suspicion of committing copyright infringement and accessory to that crime."

So all this recent activity raises concerns for my new favorite xbox site which hosts torrents. It may be wise, although many would be against it, including myself before i finally donated, to move all torrents to a VIP only section available only though a link offered in the VIP forum maybe? This may be drastic measures, but i'd rather see our torrents go underground than for the site to go under. Thanks for reading, have a Nice day! and Pirate on!! :)
