An obscure developer wants to put virtual narcotics in your hands.Nagual Games must be ready for controversy. The independent developer today announced DEALER - Chronic, Pills & Coke, a third-person, GTA-inspired action title putting players in the role of a drug dealer.

The game will challenge players to carefully build their criminal empire, starting with low-level narcotics like marijuana and eventually trafficking in ecstasy, LSD, cocaine, heroin, and even prostitution. As your power and wealth grows, you'll be able to invest in marijuana farms and meth labs, improving your, uh, production capacity.

Nagual is licensing the Gamebryo engine from NDL, as well as BioGraphic's AI.implant technology for the game's many planned NPCs. In addition to a freely-explorable gritty metropolis, DEALER lets the main character take his own narcotics, each of which produces different effects on his stats.

Lest anyone assume that DEALER will simply glorify a life of criminal narcotics trafficking, the developers offer assurance that the game will emphasize "dealing drugs is not only a crime, but also harmful to the society and the individual." Nagual is evidently working with drug prevention and addiction experts in building this message into the game.

Regardless of Nagual's motives, DEALER appears designed for controversy. The company is still seeking a publishing partner, though it hopes to release the game for PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. Whether the title gets that far, especially in the important North American market, remains to be seen. Stay tuned for more.Source: IGN
